Bangkok March 2010
|
|
At the recent Pig, Poultry & Dairy Focus
Asia 2010 that took place in Bangkok, Thailand, David Buessing, Sales
Manager for Southeast Asia, presented new ways to improve hatchery
ventilation. The new CC3 ventilation system developed by Chick Master is
an innovative way to ventilate hatcheries while obtaining sizable energy
savings. The CC3 can incorporate heat recovery for free heat energy in
colder climates and for dehumidification in more tropical areas. The
large audience showed great interest in the topic because every business
today is looking to find ways to reduce costs. |

Peco Foods New Modern Hatchery Opens
Peco Foods recently opened its new single stage hatchery in Sebastopol,
Mississippi, USA. For this large facility, Peco Foods selected Chick
Master Avida single stage setters and hatchers. Peco recognized that by
using custom programs and the unique features of the Avida setters, they
would gain greater efficiency both in the hatchery and on the grow-out
farms.
Working closely with the Chick Master installation
and start-up team, Peco had a smooth process from design to production.
“We are very proud that Peco selected Chick Master for this important
and prestigious new facility. It involved many months of planning and a
close cooperative effort between both our companies. It has been a great
relationship for both Peco and Chick Master”, stated Lou Sharp, Vice
President of US Sales for Chick Master.

Cobb-Vantress Upgrades with Chick Master
Recently Cobb-Vantress decided it was time to invest
in upgrading its Wadesboro, North Carolina hatchery. This facility has
Jamesway Big J setters and hatchers with Sentry controls, but they felt
that Chick Master hatchers could offer better performance because of the
unique design of the C192 hatcher. So they contacted our sales team to
see what solutions we could offer. Working closely with our engineers,
Chick Master designed a control upgrade to utilize the Genesis IV
controls on the hatchers. They also like the Chick Master hatcher design
and the efficiency of the fan system in the C192 model hatchers. Our
design team went to work and built an upgrade utilizing the C192 fan
assembly that replaced the original Jamesway fan assembly.

 |
After several months of operation, Cobb has seen the
return they expected. In comparison to the original Jamesway hatchers,
both chick quality and the number of sellable breeder chicks have
increased. An improved airflow and better control gave them the benefits
they expected. Congratulations to Cobb and the Chick Master engineering
team! To gain even further improvements, Cobb-Vantress has already
committed to further control upgrades for the setters. Their Jamesway
setters will soon utilize the Genesis IV controls connected to the Chick
Master Galaxy software system. With better and more accurate control,
Cobb will see even great benefits.
If you have Jamesway setters and hatchers of any model, you could
benefit from these same upgrades. Contact your Chick Master sales
representative to see how you can improve your hatch and chick quality. |

Upgrading with GeMerics
Many companies have already realized that new
technology can be added to setters and hatchers that are still in good
condition and give excellent results. The GeMeric control
does just that by adding electronic temperature control to relay based
controllers. It allows the use of sensors rather than mercury
thermostats to manage temperature and humidity. The GeMeric
also features PID control so there is no overshoot of temperature as the
systems pulse to approach the set points without too much wasted
cycling. This saves energy and gives a more balanced environment for the
embryos. The result, better chick quality at a lower cost and
the removal of mercury thermometers all at a very reasonable price!

The installation above is from a
Tyson Foods hatchery in the USA. GeMerics can be installed on
almost any setter or hatcher regardless of manufacturer. Ask your
Chick Master sales manager how you can improve your hatchery control.

An Expansion in Manhattan……Kansas
Like many commercial layer
hatcheries, Nelson Poultry Farms built a hatchery using Classic multi
stage systems just a few years ago. After attending one of our
Open Houses in Medina, Ohio, Greg Nelson, President and General Manager,
decided that the expansion should take advantage of new technology.
He decided that the idea of managing carbon dioxide to get a stronger
and faster growing chick would help their business. So they added
the Chick Master CO2 enhancement kits and other
upgrades to their Classics. By controlling humidity and carbon
dioxide levels, they were able to obtain improvements in their hatch and
chick quality. The results were seen immediately.

Greg B. Nelson, President and General
Manager of Nelson Hatcheries
and Claude Leroux, Chick Master Sales Manager.
At the same time, Greg felt that
single stage technology would offer advantages for their planned
expansion. So Nelson’s added two Avida A24 setters to their
multistage facility. Using the sophisticated tools that Chick
Master setters and hatchers feature, Nelson’s has witnessed the
improvements that Avida systems have to offer. They even beat the
results of their upgraded Classics! We hope their business
continues to be successful and grow with more Avidas in the future.
